Continuation of Part1
The tour guide picked us up at exactly 7 in the morning.
We were to go to the Underground / Subterranean River in Sabang. This river currently ranks 2nd in the Nature category of the New 7 Wonders.
It was a very long drive from Banwa to Sabang. More than half of the road trip was crazy. The road is so rocky and our tour van jumped and swayed almost every second. I think had an hour and a half of free butt, arm and back massage.
We arrived at the port at around 11 in the morning and since we were told that a lot of tourists are in line for the river tour, we decided to have lunch by the beach. The sand is powdery and soft. I remember taking of my slippers off and dipping my feet into the cool sand while eating. I wasn’t able to take photos at the lunch table, but I was able to take this photo of the old ladies on the carabao kalesa.
After eating, we rode a boat to the shore of the Subterranean River. It was a wet and cool 15-minute ride. I wanted to take photos of the spectacular view but I was too afraid of the possibility of accidentally dropping my camera into the water.
When we arrived at the place, we had to wait for a while before getting to ride the boat into the cave. The boatmen and staff were having their lunch. We took this opportunity to take a few family photos. I obviously took the opportunity to have my picture taken for the first time for the whole duration of the trip. Hehehe.
For a person who has already been in a cave (Mystical Cave in Antipolo) and have already seen rock formations, the Subterranean River tour was nothing new to me. It was only a bigger, cooler, improved and wetter version of what I’ve seen before. We toured the first 1.5km of the cave in 45minutes. It is beautiful. Im pretty sure my religious uncle enjoyed the Cathedral part of the cave, where there were rock formations that looked like religious icons. I tried to take photos but the boat kept on moving and the boat lights were in constant motion. I dared not to shoot with flash because I was afraid that the bats would attack us. It was pretty cold inside and the air was thin.
We immediately left after the tour to avoid traffic. That was around 3 in the afternoon. The boat ride back was wilder. The waves were larger and I even got my pants wet. Then I got some free butt, arm and back massage again. My flabs jiggled and wiggled.
We arrived in Banwa a little past 5. We took some rest and went out for dinner. This time, we tried Kinabuch’s. We were told that it’s the only restaurant that serves the tamilok or wood worm delicacy. I so wanted to try that but unfortunately, it was no longer available and has long been removed from the menu. Aww. Like Ka Lui, Kinabuch’s is also one of the few restaurants which only accepts customers who made a reservation but we’re fortunate enough they were able to accomodate us even if we just walked in.
The food at Kinabuch’s is soooo good. It’s like Ka Lui’s minus the ambience plus the meat (Ka Lui serves seafood). We had Kalderetang Kambing (which was cooked so well, by the way), Calamares (again), Chopsuey, Baked Mussels, and a few other dishes that I didn’t try .. (I was satisfied eating the Baked Mussels with garlic rice alone. Hehehe). Surprisingly, our bill was half the price compared to what we had in Ka Lui the previous night. (So if you’re on a budget and you can’t afford Ka Lui, Kinabuch’s is your next best option!) The oldies and I went back to Banwa stuffed and satisfied.
I didn’t sleep yet when we got back. I hanged out at the common room and enjoyed the cool atmosphere. I had some carrot+apple shake while I made a bracelet with the make your own necklace basket I found the day before. It was almost midnight when I decided to go to bed.
The next day we had some tasty Banwa-style breakfast and left just in time for our 10.30am flight back to Manila. I would’ve stayed if I had the means. I want to go beach-hopping at Honda Bay but some of the oldies have to go home because they have to go to work the following day. :/
The trip was worthwhile and though I was with too many oldies, I still enjoyed the vacation and would definitely love to come back and explore the island.
